Nice to Meet You!

This is my ninth year at Marshall Middle School and I am thrilled to be here!  I love middle school, and I am passionate about social studies/history, so I know we will all be having fun learning together.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Scott, for 33 years. We have 3 children. Our oldest is Amanda, who has her own tutoring business in Kansas City, MO. Our middle child is Shelly, who recently finished her Master's degree in English at Indiana State University. Our youngest is Michael, graduated from Oregon Tech as a mechanical engineer and is now working for Solar Turbines. We have a 9-year old Lab-Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, named Buddy.

I have a Bachelor's in social science from Chapman University, and a Master's in education, with an emphasis in teaching, from Azusa Pacific University. I love to learn and am constantly taking classes and looking for opportunities to learn more. This summer I attended a week-long workshop at Stanford University, sponsored by the Center to Support Excellence in Teaching. Last summer my husband & I traveled to Iceland. It was beyond beautiful and so geographically diverse! Three summers ago we took a Viking River Cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest, where we visited many medieval towns. The summer before, we went to Costa Rica. We went white water rafting, zip-lining, rappelling down waterfalls and hiked in the rain forest and cloud forest. In 2012 I spent 3 1/2 weeks in Japan and China, teaching English to Chinese teachers for 2 of those weeks. The summer before that, my oldest daughter & I traveled to Egypt. My husband and I took a trip to Italy the summer before that, so in social studies, I will be sharing pictures and stories from the places we visited. I wonder if my hands touched the same stones at Caesar's or walked the same path as the pharaohs? I feel privileged to visit many of the places that we discuss in this class.

I love to read and write. I also like anything that has to do with water or air. The most daring thing I have ever done is sky diving. It was incredible and I did another jump with my son August 2010. That summer I also took a lesson on a flying trapeze, and tried surfing. Best summer ever!

The most challenging and rewarding thing I've ever done(besides raising my family, of course), is to walk in the 3-day breast cancer walk. If you ever get a chance to do that, I guarantee it will change your life!

I love Marshall and look forward to working with you to ensure that your student has a positive 7th-grade experience.
