Listen to "The Story Behind Every Letter A-Z." As you listen, you should fill in the graphic organizer and then answer the short answer questions when you finish listening.

Activity #2: After reading the excerpt from Red Scarf Girl, decide on a scale of 1-10 how hopeful Ji-li appears to be. Using evidence from the excerpt, tell what from the text made you feel how hopeful Ji-li was. Submit your document and turn in your assignment.

After re-reading the prologue of Red Scarf Girl, respond to the prompt in Activity 5. Remember to read both questions and answer BOTH fully.

1) From the Global Navigation Menu, click on the Amplify Library
2) Set up a PIN if it has not been done for you (I recommend writing it down somewhere so if you forget, you can easily find out what you decided your PIN was).
3) Search for Red Scarf Girl: A Memoir of the Cultural Revolution.
4) Download the text.
5) Bookmark the Amplify Library.
6) If you use a different device at home or for your Solo work, make sure to download these same texts onto that device.

After looking at the image of Mao, you will need to do activities on cards 1 and 2, then hand in your work. We will discuss in class.

Complete the attached work for Unit 1 from "Vocabulary from Latin and Greek Roots." The assignment needs to be completed by September 11. We will review our answers in class on Friday, September 11. You will have an assessment for these words on September 18.

This an asynchronous writing activity that is designed to get a baseline of your writing skills. I will be reading it to get to know you better, but will not be assigning a grade for your work. Please do your best work by yourself. This is an evaluation of your writing skills without outside assistance. I will be happy to answer any clarifying questions for you, but if there is something you don't know (ex. Thesis statement), skip it. We will review these elements again throughout the year. Remember not to stress out over this, you have two weeks to get this done. You can do it!
