Good Evening 6th Grade Families,
Marshall Middle School is excited to announcement a brand new program called the Mustang Mentors. This mentorship program will link every incoming 6th grade up with a 7th or 8th grade mentor. As educators, we know that the transition to middle school can be one of the most important and yet challenging times in school. The personal connections that students have with peers is an essential component to ease with this transition, yet difficult to cultivate in an online setting. This is where the Mustang Mentors come in. Our team of mentors were selected as part of our already established Peer Tutoring, ASB, and Office-aide programs. Students in these programs had to maintain a high level of academic achievement and citizenship, as well as demonstrate leadership during their time at Marshall. This week they’ve been participating in training to learn how to facilitate positive interactions, use appropriate communication and boundaries, and learn about our school’s systems and procedures for the start of the year so they can better support our 6th graders. We can’t wait for your student to meet them!
Here’s what you can expect from the Mustang Mentors:
- A welcoming phone call the week leading up to school.
- Weekly check-ins throughout the first few months of school, either through phone calls or emails.
These mentors will be contacting incoming 6th grade students through the number MMS has as the primary contact and will establish a more effective means of communication with their 6th grade student.
If you prefer to not have your 6th grade student be contacted by a Mustang Mentor, then you can opt your 6th graders out by submitting this form.
Please know, this will not be the only form of support your incoming 6th grade student will receive, but in addition to the already established counselors, administrators, and teaching staff that will be focused on making this transition to middle school as easy and smooth as possible for your child. Stay tuned for a special 6th grade orientation...
