Magical Me

Pilar Martinez graduated from Mira Mesa High School in 1995. She went on to San Diego State University and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1999. Pilar graduated with a Master's degree in reading instruction in 2015.  She currently enjoys teaching English.

Miss Martinez's likes: math, things that are nerdy, pineapple, Harry Potter, Batman, candy, Disneyland, "The Office", students who are happy to be in class, books, zombies, things that scare her, Mexico, wintergreen flavoring, Spanish, "Ghost Hunters", "30 Rock", "Parks and Rec", people who return her classroom library books, and Halloween.

Miss Martinez's dislikes: raisins, carrot cake (vegetables should never be involved in dessert), unreturned "borrowed" books, reality TV, firedrills, and people who do not return her classroom library books.

Books Miss Martinez recommends: Any of the Cirque du Freak series, any of the Harry Potter series, Gone With the Wind, Science Experiments You Can Eat, Smelly History, any of the Little House on the Prarie series, Running Out of Time, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Witch Child, Sorceress, Romiette and Julio, Double Dutch, any of the Among the Hidden series, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, The Westing Game, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Frida, Quidditch Through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Pirates! The Sneetches and Other Stories, Baseball in April, Neighborhood News, The Phantom Tollbooth, Holes, The Silver Kiss, Jane Eyre, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, The Mayor of Casterbridge, World War Z, John Adams, North and South (by Elizabeth Gaskell, not the cheesy 80s miniseries).
