"Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head behind Christopher Robin. It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming downstairs, but sometimes he feels there really is another way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it."

--Winnie the Pooh, by A. A. Milne

I grew up in Point Loma. As a kid I enjoyed sailing and riding my bike out to the end of the point where we played in the secret WWII tunnels. I went to Bishop's for middle and high school. In high school I played soccer, football, baseball and track. That sounds impressive but there were only 40 boys in the whole school. There were 400 girls which made the odds of getting on the team, or a date to the dance pretty good. My first two years of college were at Oregon State University. While there I was on the varsity light-weight crew team. I finished college at San Diego State Univ. with a degree in Civil Engineering. I was an engineer for ten years. Then I went back to school earning a degree in Mathematics, and eventually a Master's in the teaching of mathematics. I have been a teacher now for twenty-plus years. I am married to Mrs. Rick and have two daughters. Jennifer graduated from University of Oregon and is now teaching English at Dana Middle School. Jordan also graduated from University of Oregon and is teaching Art in the San Francisco area.
